Spirited Libations
The veil is thinning and the ghosts and goblins are coming out to play. Fall is such a fun time of year. The temperatures are cooling, the leaves are changing, and the holidays kick off with a nationwide costume party. The kids may be haunting up candy, but the treats we suggest are adult only. Here are a few Halloween cocktails you can serve your guests this weekend.
Candy Corn
1 oz Stoli Vanil
1 oz Stoli Oranj
2 oz Pineapple Juice
.5 oz Grenadine
Put all ingredients except grenadine and whipped cream in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Slowly pour grenadine into mix so it settles at the bottom. Top with whipped cream.
Pumpkin Bomb
8 oz Pumpkin Beer
1.5 oz Rumchata
Fill a pint glass half full with pumpkin beer and drop the shot in.
Pumpkin Pie Martini
2 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
1 Tbsp canned pumpkin pie mix (NOT just canned pumpkin, make sure it’s pumpkin pie mix!)
.5 oz spiced syrup (recipe below)
Grated nutmeg
Put all ingredients except nutmeg in shaker. Shake and double strain into a coupe or martini glass. (Use a fine mesh strainer. Mixture will strain slowly, so use a spoon to agitate the mixture in the strainer to speed up the process.)
Spiced Syrup Recipe
4 cinnamon sticks
8 small slices fresh ginger
Half a vanilla bean, split open
30 whole allspice berries
20-25 whole cloves (stems on)
6 whole star anise pods
2 cups sugar
2.75 cups of water
In a 2 quart saucepan, simmer all ingredients on low for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let steep for 2-3 hours. Add a little water if the mixture is too viscous (resembling the thickness of honey). Strain into a glass container and keep in refrigerator until needed.

Witches’ Coffee House
2 oz Highland Park Dark Origins Whisky
1 oz coffee, room temperature or chilled
.75 oz black lime syrup (recipe below)
.5 oz fresh lime juice
1 egg white
Q tonic, to top
Small edible flowers, for garnish (optional)
Add the whisky, lime syrup, lime juice, and egg white to shaker with a small amount of ice and shake vigorously so the egg white emulsifies. Double strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Top with tonic and garnish with small edible flowers if desired.
Black Lime Syrup Recipe
.5 tsp black lime powder (also sold as dried lime powder)
1 capsule activated charcoal
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Add all ingredients to a saucepan and heat over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
